Come spend a day exploring illuminated letters through prayer, contemplation and creative activity. We will loosely keep the ancient hours in a modern context, reflecting on the art of illumination in our readings, prayers, songs and with the work of our hands.

Medieval illuminated manuscripts have layers of meaning; each page and illustration can be read from different angles adding new insight and understanding as they are explored.  Our illuminated lives are equally complex, and the day’s focus will invite us to look at the wit and wisdom of our own letters.

Options of different skill levels for creating illuminated artwork will accompany the prayers, readings and songs as we share the day in quietness.

Offered as part of the Immanuel Chapel Dedicatory Year celebration.
